A pervert whose careless driving injured TV paedophile hunter Stinson Hunter has had his three-year driving ban slashed in half by top judges.
Pervez Akhtar, 57, of Church Road, Lye, Stourbridge, admitted careless driving and attempting to meet a child aged under 16 following sexual grooming.
The married father-of-six was caged for 15 months at Warwick Crown Court in May and was also hit with the driving ban and a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
Akhtar arranged to meet 13-year-old ‘Jodie’ on June 4, 2013 for non-penetrative sexual activity, Mr Justice Foskett told London’s Appeal Court.
But when he drove to Cedar Road, in Nuneaton, for the ‘rendezvous with the fictitious girl’ he was confronted by Mr Hunter and his associates, one of whom was filming.
The paedophile hunter blacked out and suffered a catalogue of injuries when he fell, including fractures to his heel and other bones in his foot.
He spent a week in hospital and several more in plaster and had to use a wheelchair for a fortnight as a result of the Nuneaton rendezvous.
Akhtar pleaded guilty to careless driving on the basis that Mr Hunter “jumped on the bonnet of his car” and that he did not drive at him, said the judge.
His lawyers did not challenge the jail term, but argued that the driving ban was far too lengthy.
Akhtar had no previous convictions for driving offences and needed to drive for early morning and late-night shifts as he worked 18 miles from his home, the court heard.
“We think there is some force in these submissions,” said Mr Justice Foskett.
The judge, sitting with Lady Justice Rafferty and Mr Justice Nicol, allowed the appeal and reduced the driving disqualification to 18 months.
Hunter, 33, previously told the Birmingham Mail: “What happened to me was not really as important.
“It’s the punishment for the sexual offences that is important in my eyes.
“The main thing is Akhtar was jailed, ordered to register and handed a sexual prevention order.
“They are pretty heavy sentences and I’m really happy with them.”
