Life sentence for wife decapitation

A man who decapitated his wife at their home in west London has been sentenced to life in prison.

Naveed Ahmed, 41, killed of mother-of-two Tahira Ahmed, 38, in Merton Avenue, Northolt on 27 May last year.

A post-mortem examination found both her arms had been broken and she had been stabbed and decapitated.

At the Old Bailey, Ahmed, who admitted murder, was sentenced to life with a minimum tariff of 22 years.

‘Kindest individual’
A Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) statement released following sentencing said Ahmed attacked his wife “with a large kitchen knife” and a “metal table leg causing numerous, severe injuries”.

Ahmed was arrested after fleeing the house when officers noticed he had bloodstains on his coat and was sweating heavily.

A statement released by the victim’s family said: “On this day there is no celebration, for we have forever lost a dearly loved daughter, sister, mother and friend.

“Tahira was the kindest, most patient and gentle individual, who lived for her children and family, she devoted her life to the welfare of her children and their best possible upbringing.

“Tahira, we miss you every second of every day.”

CPS London chief crown prosecutor Baljit Ubhey said: “Tahira Ahmed was murdered in her own home, a place where she should have felt safe.

“I hope the sentence today provides some comfort to Tahira’s family. Our thoughts are with them at this time.”

Det Sgt Nick Miller said: “This was a senseless and brutal attack of a defenceless wife and mother in the family home.”
